Brainwave Entrainment Types

Binaural Beats

Binaural beats are a type of  brainwave entrainment that uses two separate sounds to form a third sound inside your brain. Headphones are required to listen to binaural beat tones.

Isochronic Tones

Binaural beats are produced because of the combination of two separate sounds while Isochronic tones do not depend on the interaction of tones to form a beat. Actually, a beat is formed due to the use of audio modulations. Contrary to the popular belief, Isochronic tones tend to be more effective in inducing entrainment than binaural beats. Headphones are unnecessary to listen to isochronic beats.

Monaural Beats

Monaural beats entrainment sound is formed outside your brain. You do not need to use headphones.

Harmonic Box X

In the book Awakening Mind, James Mann describes a different entrainment method named Harmonic Box X. This method incorporates both Monaural and Binaural Beats, in a harmonic formation. Owing to the fact that it uses binaural beats it is necessary to listen to it with stereo headphones.
